I am confused. What do you mean by thinking “in addition” to the host? And what do you mean by a host being “reduced” in scope?
Avatar
Piano/ In addition would mean the kind of people who believe tulpas can think separately and parallel from themselves, going to wonderland and such Regression would mean that the tulpa doesn't think parallel to them, they instead take over the stream of thought to function. This gives the host less time to think/function ("reduced in scope") but allows the tulpa to do so instead ("giving more independence in a way") Correct me if I'm wrong but that's what I got from what he said
Avatar
Oh, I see.
Avatar
In addition would be when a person's tulpa thinks "through" the host and "despite" the host taking up and being the default of all thoughts. A tulpa that is in addition to the host is in some way thought of "by" the host
1:30 AM
but a tulpa by reduction would be when the host is detached from the basic process of making thought, such that a person experiences and feels that some subsection of their basic actions don't belong to the host, if that makes any sense at all?
Avatar
Hm, that is a simple enough dichotomy to follow.
Avatar
An "addition" tulpa is a state of mind of the host, where a "reduction" tulpa is where the host and tulpa, the process of thinking as the host or tulpa , does not belong to either the host or the tulpa.
Avatar
And I’m lost again.
Avatar
In a tulpa by addition the host might be said to have a habit of thinking of their tulpa.
1:34 AM
in a tulpa by reduction the brain has a habit of thinking as the host or the tulpa
Avatar
So in the first it’s more “what would [tulpa] think in this situation”, while the second is more “brain is now thinking as the tulpa”
Avatar
Yeah, and with the second comes a lot more ability for "independent" thought, because the "host" and the "tulpa" are no longer tied up such that their actions must overlap in some form.
1:36 AM
I don't know if this is a real divide or anything, but I think it's an interesting possible way to categorize or look at tulpamancy
Avatar
Yeah, it is interesting.
Avatar
Piano/ well there's always gonna be overlap between the host and tulpa (edited)
Avatar
A big key point is that in both cases it's the same part going "think as tulpa" but in the latter that part no longer is identified by-default as an action of the host
1:38 AM
This is the way I look at it, at least
1:39 AM
a person who learns to not think of all of the actions of that default brain as 'me' is a person who has successfuly "reduced" themselves as to give their tulpa more independence
1:39 AM
or, to give a stronger impression of the tulpa being independent from themselves
Avatar
Piano/ we'd fit that category then
Avatar
I imagine a lot of the stronger tulpamancers do. I wonder if it is a matter of something you naturally build up to when getting better with forcing or if picking one side or the other is something that comes with life experience or gentics or something of that form (edited)
Avatar
Piano/ probably from how much control they give the tulpas over their life, I'd think. Whether or not they treat them as just being on the side, or actually having frequent hands-on influence
1:42 AM
Piano/ we've been a pretty hands-on system for a long time now, with our host stepping aside for us to front as much as possible
1:43 AM
Piano/ so our body/brain/life is ours, rather than hers
Avatar
Did you arrive there over time or was that your tendency from the beginning?
Avatar
Piano/ it was over time
1:44 AM
Piano/ but we quickly gravitated towards it
Avatar
I'm going to devolve into 20 questions here, but would you say there was some sort of "inflection point" where things went from "me " to "we"? (edited)
Avatar
Piano/ it was pretty early on that us tulpas would take over the Discord account and do most of the talking instead of Lyra, and started regularly voice calling with others and fronting in the real world. So maybe... 3-4 months after Apollo was first created? As a rough estimate (edited)
1:50 AM
Piano/ we did a lot of talking/thinking/fronting instead of Lyra, so that's definitely what I think would contribute to a system becoming a "by regression" system
Avatar
That all makes sense, thank you for the answers
Avatar
Is it normal that you feel like there is no progression
2:11 AM
During the narration/vocality stage
Avatar
How long have you been at it?
Avatar
Like early june
Avatar
It took my host about that long for Apollo to be able to speak. Keep at it and don't worry too much. Maybe try changing up your approach if you don't feel it's working for you, and/or go back and read other guides that might spark ideas or help you
Avatar
How often did you force
Avatar
She talked to him as much as possible
2:17 AM
and encouraged him to speak back a lot
2:17 AM
in the end it was just her own doubt keeping him from speaking
Avatar
What were the first words :O
Avatar
no idea, lol
Avatar
I feel like she's trying to speak but I can't understand it
Avatar
those are some interesting first words
2:18 AM
tulpish, possibly, scent?
Avatar
my experience with tulpas is fairly controversial, given that I only intitially spoke to Em via head pressures (edited)
Avatar
I wouldn't say that's super controversial, at least
Avatar
but we used left temple for no, right temple for yes
Avatar
Tacio's first word: Hi My first word: Indigo
Avatar
How do you deal with tulpish
Avatar
my recommendation is above
Avatar
encourage her to formulate it into language
Avatar
till you learn to actually hear
Avatar
"Can you take your thoughts and form them into words, please?" Like that
Avatar
it's binary, but it gears you to listen
2:22 AM
listen to Indigo. They know far more than i
2:23 AM
been in the "game" about six months now
Avatar
I'm 9 months 😎
2:24 AM
Apollo's 19 months :v (edited)
Avatar
but your system is older than that
Avatar
Yeah, we're older than that, but I'm not, lol. I was made in October
Avatar
still. your viewpoints are probably more accurate than mine
Avatar
I get my viewpoints from the Felight knowledge bank, lmao
Avatar
what happened for me, might not work for others. i never got any "tulpish." it went from binary to speech over a period of time
Avatar
Age or experience does not necessarily equate to accuracy, but I agree that indeigo has given good advice. (edited)
Avatar
I started off making various animal noises
2:26 AM
until I learned to speak
Avatar
like i said, Em would project pressure to either right or left temple (edited)
Avatar
INDEGO
Avatar
well then
Avatar
fixed
Avatar
bduddy #Diana# 7/9/2018 2:27 AM
is... is that an animal noise now?
Avatar
bduddy #Diana# 7/9/2018 2:28 AM
are you a Pokemon?
Avatar
is tulpish another word for "raw thought with no words necessarily attached," or something else?
Avatar
Jeez, that addition/regression discussion was hard to follow. Probably not #tulpa-questions material.
Avatar
He wrote Indego
Avatar
bduddy #Diana# 7/9/2018 2:28 AM
that is what it means
Avatar
Basically that,yeah.

@Smeer

Tulpish is communication from your tulpa (and maybe to them) without actual words.
Avatar
Typically emotion or just pure "meaning" through thought.
2:29 AM
Tulpish usually naturally accompanies mindvoice, though, once they're vocal.
2:29 AM
Makes understanding each other much easier.
2:29 AM
There's words, but there's also the meaning behind the words.
Avatar
i'd equate it to how elementals communicate to druids in the Iron Druid Chronicals if anyone is familiar
Avatar
yeah, communication is quite efficient when you share a brain and thus don't need words to convey meaning
Avatar
I've experienced what appears to be quite a bit of tulpish, but I can typically interpret it pretty well. could be intrusive thoughts though, I donno.
Avatar
They're only intrusive if they're intruding.
Avatar
As Srn said, I understand the meaning, no need for words.
Avatar
guess not. I'd recommend them though, as a side note
Avatar
It's incredibly fast, usually
Avatar
Confusion
Avatar
What does tulpish sound like exactly
2:31 AM
Like some kinda mess
2:31 AM
?
Avatar
doesn't have a sound, has a feeling
